This herbal formula is used in Peru to treat headaches, from minor aches in the temporal area to more serious migraine headaches. When these formulas were tested at Dr. Rickhi's clinic, it only made sense to test the more serious applications for the product, including migraine headaches. His results are given below:
Ingredients: See active herbals (located on the "Medicinal Herbs of the Western Amazonia" web page).

Dr. Rudranath Rickhi's Findings (Summary)
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of a topical preparation in the relief of migraine headaches.
Setting: Private clinic in Trinidad
Date of Final Report: February 22, 1997
Subjects: All patients presented to the clinic showed signs and symptoms consistent with migraine headaches of any type. Inclusion criteria are greater than 9 years of age, (with consent given by a parent or guardian), and having no open lesions to the scalp.
Method: Patients with migraine headaches were divided randomly into two groups: (1) the group to whom the topical solution is to be applied to the scalp on a 1/2 hour schedule, following which, the patient is to lie down in a darkened room. (2) a control group who are placed in a darkened quiet room and have a placebo solution applied to the head every half hour.

Effect was evaluated by subjective measure (i.e. patient descriptions of pain pre- and post-treatment using a scale of 1 to 10), as well as by recording alterations in the symptoms of migraines (i.e. photophobia, vomiting). After three applications, if the therapy was ineffective, other therapies were applied.

Results:

Survey completed on 30 patients with acute migraine.

80% of the patients responded within one hour of application of the solution, with complete disappearance of headaches.
10% of patients responded with complete disappearance of headaches after 2 applications applied at 1-2 week intervals.
10% reported complete disappearance of headaches afer 3 applications at 2-3 week intervals.
Overall, excellent results were achieved with the (Temporal Tension) formula.
